The Vianney Halter Deep Space Tourbillon under its dome, from the side

Vianney Halter

Vianney Halter trained in Paris and restored antique clocks and watches before he opened his own workshop in Sainte-Croix in 1994. His first watch, the Antiqua of 1998, set a perpetual calendar in a case lined with rivets. His Deep Space Tourbillon, which turns on three axes, won the innovation prize at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève in 2013. He makes only a few watches a year, and he has been a member of the Académie Horlogère des Créateurs Indépendants (AHCI) since 2000.

I can source any watch, new or used, even very hard-to-get. I chose these examples to guide you.

Deep Space Tourbillon

About $215,000 at launch in 2013

Vianney Halter named the watch after Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. A tall sapphire dome lets you watch the tourbillon from the side, and its outer cage takes 30 minutes to make one turn. Two curved blue hands tell the time on the white ring around it.

Antiqua

About $584,000 at Phillips in 2026

Halter modeled the riveted windows on Captain Nemo's submarine in Jules Verne's Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. He made 110 of these perpetual calendars, 48 of them in pink gold.

Classic

About $44,000 at Phillips in 2023

In 2000, Halter followed the Antiqua with this simpler watch, which shows only the time. He kept the rivets on the bezel and crown and made 250 Classics in three colors of gold.

Trio

About $158,000 at Phillips in 2023

Separate portholes show the time and a large date, and you set the date with the crown without moving the hands. An indicator on the main dial tells day from night. Halter made 10 Trios in white gold.

La Résonance, front

La Résonance

About $285,000 at Phillips in 2022

Two timekeeping wheels, stacked one above the other, swing in opposite directions, and Halter says they correct each other's errors, as in Breguet's resonance pocket watches. Halter put the crown on the left and opened the right side of the case so the wearer can watch them.

More about Vianney Halter

Halter spent eight years restoring antique clocks and watches before he opened his workshop. The Antiqua shows its perpetual calendar on three dials. For Harry Winston he designed Opus 3, which shows the time in numerals behind small round windows.
